RA 13

is concept store, the brainchild of two ex-students of the Royal Academy, Romain Brau and Anna Kushnerova. They are being supported by a multi-talented, multi-cultural and multi-generational team that will constantly set collaborations with guest contributers to inspire and promote, discover and bridge emerging multidisciplinary talent.  RA wants to be an arena for displaying and producing a portfolio of products, site-specific projects, exhibitions, installations and performances to promote and enrich the creative and cultural discourse. Great touches to the interior and exterior liven up the white cube, a thatched roof hut at the centre of the space designed by Mathieu Lehanneur and the roof garden by Ben Berckmoes are two of the collaborations Anna & Romain did.

Both gardens tell childhood stories, on the ground floor we recreated fragments of Anna's childhood in Siberia. The Ra forest downstairs is a rich, dense cover of Taxus Baccata trees, especially chosen by Anna just outside Antwerp. They provide a living and breathing respite of shade and oxygen to the built world of RA.

Upstairs It was my turn to show my farming yought. A lush grassy knoll that encircles the restaurant skyline and builds up into a mysterious cave. It fights against traditional notions of gardening as a means for creating regimented order.

It was a pleasure creating a dreamlike landscape in a urban leftover space.

ENES

is a multi brand store in the heart of Antwerp.

In collaboration with Gert Voorjans known for his eclectic, maximalist style characterised by ‘cross mixing’. The shop has a  homely atmosphere with a wide range of experiences. The functions of the various rooms you’ll find in the house have been maintained in the design.

The garden is situated at the back of the store ‘ Non-Garden’ was created with the idea of turning the outdoor space into a stable, unchanging environment, in stark contrast with the ever-changing collections inside the store.
The showpiece is an ‘Ulmus Jacqueline Hillier’ (elm), which was selected specifically for our project and transported to Belgium. Years ago the tree was attacked by a moth leaving it with an endless maze of little paths inside, which make it particularly fragile. Choosing this tree as an respect for nature against commercial exposure of living plant.

Thats why i made the tree a  custom jewel, (inspired by medical instruments) to celebrate his joy of surviving.
The pattern of vintage stone sheets in soft, earthy shades is a continuation of the lush colour scheme of the store. The colours of the Venetian-inspired patio create the perfect light on a bright summer day or on a grey winter day.
